Higher Farm & Barton

The first thing that strikes you when you arrive at Higher Farm is the sense of space – the farm sits high on the east shoulder of the valley of the River Dee, giving it panoramic views across the Cheshire Plain to the Clwydian Hills. These hills mark the start of the Welsh uplands, and must have defined the divide between peoples and powers ever since these lands were settled.

South Cheshire is a lovely area – gently rolling pastures are interspersed with hills, making for an interesting and attractive landscape. It surprises many people that this part of Cheshire is so close to Wales. Llangollen is only 20 miles away – and you can cover this distance in just half an hour!

Historic Chester – with the world-famous Chester zoo, the Roman walls and its excellent shopping – is just a short 20-minute drive away.

Barton itself is a small, quiet hamlet these days. The road from Wrexham to Nantwich has always been an important east-west route, carrying salt and cattle in centuries gone by – but once the village was by-passed we were left in peace.
