A couple of days before our trip from Monmouth to Windermere, we decided to break our journey and find a B &B. We were so lucky. Heather was a delightful... read more host and made us very welcome. Although our hotel in the lakes was superb in every way, our room at Higher Farm was the best of the week ! A fantastic breakfast sent us on our way. What an amazing place - B&B, cottage and shepherd hut options. High standard of accommodation, the loveliest of views and relaxing atmosphere. Heather and Neil are the most helpful of... read more hosts and cannot do enough to help in any way even to the point of lending me their personal laptop when my own was playing up before an important interview! Would thoroughly recommend if you would like a peaceful location in the Chester area. We were competing in Bolesworth Castle and location excellent for this and hosts willing to be flexible with breakfast times to accommodate with competition times. Plenty of parking too.

This place is a hidden gem, especially the Shepherds Huts! So much so that we were only meant to be staying in the hut for one night and then in... read more the actual B&B the night after but decided to stay in the hut the whole time.
Our hut was called ‘Ruby Tuesday’ and had all we needed for a 2 night stay. Log fire with unlimited logs plus an electric heater for those cold winter nights, a super comfy bed, kettle, toaster, plates, cutlery, mugs, milk, tea, coffee , sugar, a mini fridge and a radio. They even had a bed pan for anyone like us who decided to watch a horror film one night and were too frightened to leave the hut to use the toilet (although the shower & toilet area which is in the B&B is a few steps away).
The owners Heather & Neil were great hosts who left us to it so we had the place to ourselves but were there if we had any questions and giving us advice on the local area and keeping us entertained at breakfast. Breakfast is in the B&B the next morning was described as ‘hearty’ and that’s exactly what is was. Two of everything made fresh and served hot with cereals, orange juice and lots of tea & coffee.
If you are looking for a totally relaxing break in a warm & cosy place whilst feeling like you are in the middle of nowhere then this is your place. Falling asleep to the sounds of the roaring log fire and the cows moo’ing after a day of exploring the area or sat outside the hut with a brew and the fire pit was perfect. Can’t wait to go back for Halloween.
